Supporting Today's Widows

Our inaugural meeting: August 2004

The Army Widows Association was formed by widows in 2004. Our aim is to offer comfort, support and friendship to the widows and widowers of service men and women and help them resolve some of the difficulties they may face after the death of their spouse.

All the members have lost their husbands or wives under a variety of different circumstances and are able to offer support and sympathy to those who have been recently widowed. We aim to offer help on your terms when you need it. We know that despite all the love and support from family and friends, widows/widowers can feel very alone. Our members are there to help you at those times.

The Association is totally independent although it does work closely with the MOD and the Army Welfare Policy Branch.

We have had support form the Army Benevolent Fund, and are in contact with many other service related charities.

The Association has the following aims:

a) Offer friendship and support to widows and widowers of deceased army personnel.
b) Address issues relating to widows/widowers and their children with the Army authorities.
c) Offer experience to improve the Army's approach to widows/widowers in the future.
d) Work closely with other ex-Service specialist organizations in support of widows/widowers and their children.
