The Association is open those who have been widowed* since 1981, whose husband died whilst serving as a commissioned or non-commissioned soldier of the Regular Army, was a member of the Territorial Army or Reserve who was mobilised for a period of regular service at the time of their death. The cause of death does not matter, it may have been as a result of illness, accident, conflict, suicide or natural causes.
*Widow is classed as the current spouse, cohabitee or civil partner as recognised by the MoD in terms of receiving a pension.
