We welcome widows/widowers and recognised partners of Army personnel, regardless of cause of death. All AWA members have lost their spouse under a variety of circumstances and we are able to offer support and sympathy and really do know how it feels.

We know that despite all the love & support from family and friends, widows/widowers can feel very alone. Our members can help especially at those times.

We can also offer a wide range of support at later stages, drawing from our many and varied experiences. Although independent, we have close links with relevant Army departments responsible for aftercare and liaise with them re any issues which affect Widows to help improve their quality of care.

The AWA assists in the provision of professional counselling when required. Some of our members worked with the AIASC on the CNO/CVO Training DVD and regularly attend training days to give a widow’s perspective.

We also assisted on the Family Guide on what to do after a death of a relative or partner who is serving in the Army. The time limit for Resettlement Allowance has been extended for widows, thanks to our campaigning!
